Command Sergeant Major, 509th Signal Battalion
Sergeant Major Javier Abad enlisted in the United States Army in May 1988. He received his Basic at Ft Jackson and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, GA. Sergeant Major Abad has held numerous leadership positions, which include Squad Leader during Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Section Leader and systems Controller in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Kosovo; Platoon Sergeant; MTT Instructor Mobile Training Team NCOIC at Afghanistan in 2003, he served two tours In Afghanistan as the Mobile training Team Instructor to the Afghan Army and Battle NCO CJTF-76 SETAF, Afghanistan 2005; G6 Sergeant Major, G6 Southern European Task Force SETAF, Vicenza, Italy; 1SG, 72d Sig BN FWD Iraq. His last three deployments included JTF-E in the Republic of Romania and Immediate Response in the Republic of Georgia (IR08) and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009.
His previous assignments include 7th Infantry Division, 127th Signal Battalion, Ft Ord, California; 1st Signal Battalion, Kaiserslautern, Germany; the Joint communications Support Element, MacDill AFB, Florida; 414th Signal Mannheim, Germany; the 44th Signal Battalion; Non-commissioned Officer Academy, Fort Gordon, GA; The Southern European Task Force G6 Vicenza, Italy, 72d Sig Bn, 7th Sig Bde, USASMA Ft Bliss, Texas. Throughout his career, Sergeant Major Abad has continued to further his military education and training. He has completed the Basic Airborne School, Equal Opportunity Leader's Course, and Instructor Training Course. He is also a graduate of all NCOES Schools to include the United States Sergeants Major Academy class 62 and holds an Associate’s Degree from Excelsior College.
